Disney is set to lay off approximately 80 people and drop support for more than 55,000 YouTubers currently backed by its Maker Studios division.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting the move has been in development since before PewDiePie made headlines last week for posting a series of videos to YouTube that featured anti-Semitic messages. Disney’s Maker Studios division will reportedly stop promoting numerous YouTubers’ channels and cease selling ads, but hasn’t said who that affects just yet. Disney and Maker currently support more than 60,000 YouTubers.

To shine some light on the PewDiePie drama that this all started from. Here's a new video from PewDiePie showing some more details of just how ridiculous this whole thing started out and how its continuing.

The Wall Street Journal claims that these changes have been in the works since before the PewDiePie drama. But anyone with enough common sense can see that Maker Studios dropped the biggest channel they had bringing in enough money to operate the studio. You take away the money coming in from his channel by dropping him, then you can't pay the 80 people they just laid off and drop 55,000 channels that were partnered because you just fired the people who oversaw those channels.

YouTube networks are not what they use to be. It use to be you had to partner your channel to unlock the YouTube features to do more with your channel, like monetize it, live stream, have a banner, etc. But YouTube's unlocked all that for everyone. So YouTube networks act more like a Movie studio now focusing on the big shows. Like the one that PewDiePie had before they cut him and took the show away.
