Let's get this out of the way: poker tournaments can be very boring to watch. Not only are the people playing in them completely lifeless (they have to in order to have an effective poker face), the tournament as well can take literally hours to finish.
Thank goodness there's a video game about poker that counters this practice. Poker Night 2 is quite possibly the best video game about poker that's worth playing over and over again.
A sequel to the highly successful Poker Night at the Inventory, Poker Night 2 pits players against the most entertaining bunch of poker opponents. The team is comprised of superstars from multiple titles such as Ash from the Evil Dead franchise, comic book heroes Sam and Max, Claptrap from Borderlands, and Brock Samson from the Venture Brothers TV show.
Despite the lifeless facial expressions that professional poker players put on, poker's game play is actually quite enjoyable if you were to play it yourself. Pair poker’s game play with huge deposit bonuses that online gaming providers are always giving away, and operators tend to get a steady stream of customers from all over the world. If only all real poker players were just as entertaining as Brock Samson in this game, the World Series of Poker would probably be much more popular in terms of the amount of viewers that tune into watch it; that said, it may even be as popular as the Super Bowl.
But despite the humor, constant banter between the players, and the lighter setting of the game, Poker Night 2’s game play is actually quite challenging. If you have a friend that's new to the standard No-Limit Hold’em, this is a great way to introduce them to the technical side of poker.
What makes the game fun throughout is the personality of each character and their witty dialogues. You’ll see that the chainsaw-wielding Ash is actually quite the psycho, while Sam is more of the “straight man of comedy,” giving the group the perfect chemistry of a comedic setup.
The game’s formula works so well that we hope that Telltale Games create a Poker Night 3. Check out the video below and if you like the game, it’s available for a dirt-cheap price over on Steam.
