According to an article on Polygon, Microsoft has decided they're going to add a way for you to pay just $9.99 a month and be able to play a variety of different games.

You will soon be able to download and play on your Xbox One, 100+ games for just $9.99 a month. Any game you buy through the service will also be sold to you at a 20 percent discount if you decide to buy it.

Not only is this smart for Microsoft to grab a steady income from players each month with this new subscription service, but its smart for game developers as well. People will be able to play more games. They won't go broke trying to play every game they want to play. And games will get played. I'm sure developers who spend many hours building these games will enjoy the fact that people are still playing their games.

Of course, this new service will probably not include the triple A games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Destiny, etc. when they come out. But for those older, not so popular games, its a winning situation for both the consumer and developer.

Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, discusses Xbox Game Pass on MajorNelson.com

“One of the best things about Xbox Game Pass is that you can discover and download the full titles directly on your Xbox One,” the official post states. “That means continuous, full-fidelity gameplay without having to worry about streaming, bandwidth or connectivity issues. In addition, all Xbox One games in the catalog — and related add-ons — will be available to purchase at an exclusive discount for Xbox Game Pass members, so you can make the games you love part of your permanent library to play whenever you want. Every month new games will cycle into the subscription with some cycling out, giving you a constantly updating library of games.”

An alpha preview of the program begins today with “a very limited” number of games, and Xbox Live Gold subscribers will get first crack at the program this spring.

“Xbox Game Pass will only be available on Xbox One and Windows 10 devices,” Microsoft stated. “While some Xbox 360 backwards compatible games will be included in Xbox Game Pass, those titles will not be available on the Xbox 360 console via your subscription.”
